Motors for accurate positioning control
A stepper motor is a brushless synchronous motor that rotates in equal steps by converting a train of input pulses, usually a square wave. Each pulse rotates the shaft through an equal angle of 1.8°or 1.2°dependent on the number of poles. The motor can be made to hold a defined position without a sensor for feedback if it is adequately selected to meet the of torque and speed requirements. A further advantage is the ability to fine-tune the supply to allow very accurate speed control.
NOTE: Can be supplied:
- With or without encoder, indexer, and
- with or without a brake
Stepper motor advantages
- Accurate and repeatable position control and wide and accurate speed control
- Rugged construction and suited to almost any environment
- The lack of a commutator means the motors are very reliable, with the life of the motor determined by the life of the bearings
- Control is achieved by digital pulses in open loop, making the system simpler to control and less costly
- High starting and low speed torque
- Simple construction, Low maintenance, Reliability
- High holding torque
